Ink
privacy
for ink (app.ink.launcher) and ink tv (app.ink.tv). updated 22 october 2026.
The short of it
nothing about you leaves your phone or tv, and there are no accounts. ink has no analytics, no ads, no crash reporting of its own and no server. what it knows (your plays, screen time, games, notifications) is kept in ink's own storage on the device and goes when ink is uninstalled.
What ink sends, to look things up
only what a lookup needs, straight from your device to the service, never with anything that names you:
- lrclib.net: a song's artist and title, for its lyrics (only with lyrics on).
- api.met.no (met norway): your rough location, rounded to about a kilometre, for the weather (only once you allow location).
- itunes search and deezer's search: an album's artist and name, or a song's artist and title, for a cover ink doesn't have, or a better one than the player gives (and musicbrainz's cover art archive when those have none).
- open.spotify.com: a spotify song's public link, to find its album.
- thumbnails.libretro.com and store.steampowered.com: a game's name, for its box art (only with a games folder chosen, or android games installed).
- github (the libretro database): lists of game details for the systems you have, on wifi.
each of these services sees your device's internet address, as any website does. their own privacy policies apply to what they keep.
What stays on the device
- what's playing and your notifications (with notification access): shown as words, kept as your play history; replies you write go through the app they belong to.
- screen time (with usage access): read from android, shown and summed on the device.
- calendar and contacts (only if you allow them): the next event; people to call or text. ink never places a call or sends a text itself: it opens your phone or messages app.
- your games folder and spotify export: read only, never uploaded.
- speakers, tvs and music assistant at home: asked what they play over your own wifi.
- home assistant (only once you sign in to it, on its own page): your lights, scenes and cameras, asked over your own wifi. a camera's live video comes straight from where it streams (a nest camera's from google, as in google's own app); ink keeps none of it.
- setting up a tv: the phone talks to your tv over your wifi (android's debugging connection) to install ink tv, turn off the apps you choose and make ink its home. what was changed is kept on the phone so it can be put back.
Sharing
ink shares nothing. a card or recap you share yourself goes where you send it.
Purchases
an unlock is bought through google play. ink is told only that it was bought, never who you are or how you paid.
Children
ink isn't made for children under 13 and collects nothing from anyone.
